Elon fully buys Twitter

Image
In more shocking social media news, two days ago Elon Musk officially bought the entire platform of Twitter.  This comes after a long battle with the board of directors of Twitter, and after facing backlash from some of the public from him trying to buy twitter.  It is reported that he is buying twitter for how much he said he was willing to pay for it two weeks ago, 44 billion.  He said this money is going to come from a variety of places but the majority of it is going to come from his own pocket.  I think roughly 21 billion of it is coming from his own pocket with the rest being in both a loan from banks, and I believe the other portion is from him selling stocks but I am not quite sure.  Elon buying twitter has many people scared he is going to change many things about it, and I am wondering why people are so scared of him buying it?  In my eyes, Elon buying twitter does not fundamentally change any part of my life in the slightest.  I feel ...

I know that my last two articles have been about this subject, but it is too massive in the social media realm to let go without diving into each thing that happens with this subject.  As my other articles have stated so far, the last thing that we knew about Elon and Twitter is that he owned roughly 9.2% of the companies stock.  Well, a few days ago on the 14th of April it was reported that Musk was willing to pay roughly 44 billion for twitter. However, twitter's board of directors did not want to sell twitter to Mr. Musk, and did what they could to keep him from buying it.  However, with Musk willing to pay 44 billion, which comes out to 54.20 per share, the board of directors had a obligation to hear out the shareholders of the company.  The reason for this is because since twitter was a publicly traded company, the board of directors have an obligation to take an offer as crazy as Mr. Musk's.  That is simply because they would make the shareholders a...

Timeline of Elon Musk buying Twitter

Image
Yesterday the owner of Spacex and Tesla bought a massive stake in the company Twitter.  It is reported that he bought roughly 9.2% worth of shares in the company.  This equates to roughly 2.9 million based on the share price.  This makes him the largest single shareholder on twitter, and today it was reported that he was able to get a hold of a seat on the board of twitter.  This is interesting because in my last article I talked about Musk having massive interest in acquiring or at least acquiring a portion of twitter.  Now we can see that he is serious in his claims.  With Elon now being the largest shareholder it will be interesting to see if he makes changes, buys more of the company, or just wanted a place of the board at twitter so he can have his ideas be heard.  However, I think it interesting that one of the richest people in the world is taking the time to buy into a social media platform, and I am wondering what he is going to do with...

Elon Takes over Twitter??

Image
As I'm sure you all know by now Elon Musk has had major interest in buying twitter recently, and this is due to him wanting to have "free speech" on the app.  This would be interesting because the first thing that comes to everyone's mind is that he is going to unban former President Donald Trump.  This seems like might not be the best idea considering some of his tweets from the past that may or may have not incited violence.  Many people on social media think this is going to be a terrible idea because you are going to have one of the richest men in the world run a social media app.  However, there are many problems with the Twitter app, and the app to its core has changed over the past 4 or 5 years.  I remember when i first downloaded twitter back in 2011 or 2010, and your timeline would go in chronological order from top to bottom.  However, now the algorithm has tweets from three days ago pop up at the top of my timeline, and then right beneath ...

Russian/Ukraine on social media

Image
Russian/Ukraine on social media Over the past few weeks we have seen much news about Ukraine, and in this blog I am going to be looking at the distribution of Ukraine information through social media.  IN an NPR article the author describes how social media is influencing people's views on the Ukraine conflict.  The author states that there have been many fake videos, or videos from a different issue used to spread misinformation about the Ukraine conflict.  For example, there was a video taken during a climate change protest, where people were covered by bags, and they did this to show support for helping tackle climate change.  However, people on social media used that clip and said this is fake news being spread about the Ukraine conflict.  They said that these people were supposedly killed during an attack on Ukraine, but the video clip was actually from a completely different issue that had no correlation.  I hope I explained that somewhat well,...

Social media in younger generations

Image
Social media in younger generations We all know that social media can be a toxic place for young people specifically, but there is a new bill that would allow parents to sue platforms for being addicting to children and causing harm.  This bill was created to make these large platforms responsible for making their apps non addictive for minors.  This is an interesting bill because we all know that these apps are extremely addictive.  Look at tik tok for example, on this app you can make short videos that only keep the person's attention for a short amount of time.  This means people can scroll for hours before realizing they have wasted their time.  This is what the bill is trying to stop, at least that is how I interpret the proposed bill.  Social media creates this world of fake image, and young people think that everything that they see on there is actually real life.  However, most of the time the people that post on social media only post w...

Trump made his own twitter?

Image
Trump made his own twitter? Donald Trump launched a new app called Truth Social, which was created just about a year after he was banned from twitter.  This is interesting to me because someone that was banned from the mainstream social media is just creating his own to spread his own ideology.  Trump is hoping that this app will bring over his followers from twitter, but I have a hard time believing that will happen, at least any time soon.  This seems like a way to stay relevant in the news because I realistically do not see anyone getting on there from any other party other than staunch conservatives.  This apps brings about the question from his Twitter ban, do social media platforms have to uphold freedom of speech, or since they are a privately owned company can they do what they want?  I honestly do not know the answer to this question, and that is why I am posing it to you guys.  I would love to hear yalls input on Trump's new social media pl...
