Twitter and the first amendment

Recently there has been a calling from a handful of Michigan Republican lawmakers that want to ban large companies, like Twitter, from removing accounts of politicians that violate their terms of service.  This is coming roughly a year after Former President Donald Trump was banned from Twitter.  I find this interesting, but it is worthy of listening to because after all there is the first amendment in the USA.  However, where it gets tricky is in this question: Do private companies, such as Twitter, have the right to ban someone for something they say while residing in the United States?  This is a difficult question, in my eyes, because we are brought up in America to believe that you have the right to say anything you want to under the first amendment, unless you're inciting violence.  So, should that right then be applied to a social media platform such as Twitter?  Personally, I do not know because I have mixed feelings on the subject.  However, I would love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this subject
